Nancy Jelinek created SeaGlass Cove in Langley because she loved the seaside village

by Carolyn Tamler 24th October 2022

Although Nancy Jelinek spent most of her career as a registered nurse at UW Medicine, after she retired in 2016 she decided she wanted to follow her dream of “Having a little store.”  Her former boss at the University of Washington had a house on Whidbey, and Nancy visited her home several times while she was still employed as a nurse.

Prior to moving to Whidbey, Nancy had lived in the small community of Gig Harbor since 1993. Gig Harbor grew a lot from when Nancy moved there and she decided it had become too built up and hectic for the lifestyle she wanted.

Her visits to Whidbey convinced her that this was where she wanted to live and retire. It took her three years to find the house she wanted in Langley. A real estate agent later helped her find the “purple building” that has become SeaGlass Cove.

Nancy says she always had a dream to own a little store, and when she moved to Whidbey, she had an idea for creating a “seaside-themed shop” that would be fun for her, and for people who have a home on the island or those who just wanted a little piece of island life to take home.

Her ideas for the seaside-themed business grew into a unique place in Langley that provides all types of home décor and lots of different items to appeal to locals and visitors.  Cydney Clowdsley, a local artist and friend, helps Nancy out by working at the store and doing all the merchandise displays and window designs.

SeaGlass Cove features several local artists including:

  • Bruce Williams – photography
  • Cydney Clowdsley – acrylic art and wood art pieces
  • Briggs Shore – pottery
  • Mary Gibbs – art tiles
  • Patty Pico - encaustics

Other Washington artists have their items shown:

  • West Coast SeaGlass - Sea Glass jewelry
  • Splash Fabric - Laminated cotton bags, aprons, bibs, tablecloths and pouches

Nancy also has a large selection of kitchen towels made from recycled plastic bottles and Swedish dish cloths instead of the traditional kitchen sponges sold elsewhere. These products have lots of different designs and are made from cotton and cellulose and are dishwasher safe.  There are also lots of toys for kids and baby items.

SeaGlass Cove is located at the back of Langley Village, down the brick path off 2nd Street, between Artworks Gallery and Ultra House restaurant. Look for the purple building.

One of the biggest benefits Nancy is receiving from her business is the fun of conversing with people who stop by. She says her shop offers something for all ages, and she enjoys having conversations about the items in the store….and about Langley and Whidbey Island.  She loves to see local seniors on Wednesday, which is Senior discount day

.

Current winter hours are: Wednesday – Sunday, 11:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Stop by SeaGlass Cove, 221 2nd Street #8 (Langley Village Courtyard).  Give Nancy a call if you have any questions: 253-861-3880 or send her an email at SeaglassLangley@gmail.com.

SeaGlass Cove is having a Holiday Open House , Saturday, November 5th from 11:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. with discounts, door prizes and a free gift with a $50 purchase.  Lots of fun holiday décor will be on display.
