David and Maggie Bailey purchased the Anchorage Inn from Dave and Diane Binder in June 2021, and they have completed a major remodel and made several changes to improve the experience for guests staying at the Anchorage Inn.
While on a vacation trip to Whidbey, they noticed a For Sale sign on the Anchorage Inn. The Baileys did a lot of research on the town of Coupeville and visited other inns on Whidbey. Maggie has a background in business strategy and sketched out a business plan. As part of their process in learning about the Anchorage Inn, they made several trips to the island and had long visits with Dave and Diane Binder, who had owned the inn for over 20 years. During the Binders’ time as inn keepers, they built a strong reputation of excellence and the Anchorage Inn received many awards including top rankings from Airbnb, Booking.com, Bed and Breakfast.com, and Trip Advisor.
After they purchased the inn, David and Maggie began to develop their vision for the property and wanted to create an elegant Bed and Breakfast for the Coupeville community.
The Baileys offer their guests a high quality of service and a feeling of being “at home.” They are continuing the Anchorage Inn tradition of excellent breakfasts. Maggie does all the cooking, and she continues to use several of the recipes that were created by Diane and Dave Binder. Maggie has also introduced numerous new menu items for the guests including Crème Brule French Toast, Greek Strata, Tamale and Cheese Bake, and many more. She says her goal is to make a healthy breakfast that guests would normally not make for themselves at home.
The Baileys also want to encourage guests to learn about the history of the island, visit the shops, tour the museums, take in the art studios, the state parks, wineries, trails and other iconic places during their visit to Whidbey .The décor at the inn highlights local artists and artisans.
A major part of their improvements to the inn has been a significant remodel that includes an expanded dining room, a deck on each level of the building where guests can enjoy their breakfasts and a glass of wine and special treats from Bayleaf. In addition, each of the guest rooms were remodeled with many upgrades including new furniture, built-in electric fireplace, fiber optic, Roku streaming TV, and all new flooring and paint. Local talents were used to complete the design and construction of the remodels.
