Jeremy and Brooke Cornwell have lived and worked in many places during their 21-year marriage. They both shared a dream of wanting to have their own business. Their dream was realized in March 2023 when they were able to establish Pillar Physical Therapy a short distance from the Clinton Ferry Terminal. They wanted to have total control over what they were doing and they wanted to feel they were making a significant contribution to the community. Jeremy and Brooke run the business.
Jeremy is a highly trained physical therapist. He grew up near Sacramento, California. He has been involved with physical therapy for most of his professional life. He originally was accepted at AT Still Osteopathy in Mesa, Arizona and became a doctor in their physical therapy program. A few years later, he became a partner and clinic director at IRG Physical Therapy in Mukilteo.
Brooke attended Washington State University and got a degree in Hospitality Business Management. She met Jeremy in a Geology class at Washington State University in Pullman over 20 years ago.
One of the major factors that drew them to Whidbey for their business is that Brooke comes from a 5th generation Whidbey family. They moved to Whidbey in 2007 so that Brooke could be back with her family, and they were able to live in the house her grandfather built in Clinton.
Jeremy and Brooke are committed to having their business provide a needed service on the south end of Whidbey. The name Pillar means “support or foundation” and they are committed to helping people receive the support they need to attain lost physical strength and/or flexibility.
Once Jeremy and Brooke became committed to having their own business, they needed to find the right location on Whidbey. The requirements included a building large enough for the equipment and physical activities, easy access from the ferry, visibility, and in a location that didn’t have similar medical facilities nearby.
The Cornwells are well-known in the Clinton community. They are members of the Clinton Chamber. Their two children, ages 13 and 15, attend the local public school. Brooke was a stay-at-home mom for most of their younger years.
Brooke believes that Jeremy has a strong commitment to what he does. She notes: “Jeremy understands that each patient is unique, and he spends time learning about the personality and needs of every person with whom he works.”
