Word is beginning to get around that Leo and Leto’s Winery and Bistro in Freeland is a great place to go for dinners, weekend brunches, wine and entertainment.

Kyle O’Neill has extensive experience in the food and wine industry. He attended the Unversity of Alaska where he studied culinary arts and has been working in restaurants for the past 20 years. He has worked with several amazing chefs. He says “Food and wine always called to me, and I wanted to follow a career in this industry.”

Before taking on the Chef de Cuisine position at Bloom’s in May 2023, Kyle worked with Scott Frasier at Frasier’s Gourmet Hideaway in Oak Harbor.

Shortly after starting at Bloom’s, Kyle began working in the winery with Ken, learning the wine making side of the business. When Ken and Virginia mentioned they were thinking of retiring, Kyle and Michelle knew it was the perfect opportunity to buy the restaurant and winery.

Kyle and Michelle handle all aspects of the business. Kyle is the Executive Chef and manages the restaurant. He notes, “I use high-quality ingredients as the base for my menu. I make all the sauces in-house and use local ingredients like Wildly Beloved Pasta and 3 Sisters Beef.”

Kyle and Michelle will continue to make wine, sourcing grapes locally and from eastern Washington. “Legacy Trio” were the first wines Kyle and Michelle helped blend with the Blooms before their retirement. New wines will be released under the Leo & Leto name, starting with those in the Legacy Collection, wines started by the Blooms and finished by Kyle and Michelle.

In addition to the excellent menus and quality of the meals there, Leo and Leto’s also provides live music every Saturday night, performed by local musicians.

Leo and Leto’s Winery and Bistro is open Wednesday and Thursday for dinner from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
