If you are someone who enjoys exploring a shop that offers a variety of items and defies a simple definition of what you might find there, Whidbey Vintage Collective in Freeland is just what you’re looking for.
Heidi Norris, Leslie Jackson, Leslie Saelens and Vanessa Carrubias were friends who were avid antique collectors and had been talking about having an antique business for several years. When Heidi saw the empty building on Highway 525 in downtown Freeland, she shared the news, and the four friends agreed the cute cottage was in a good location for their planned venture.
The business was opened in November of last year after the four women spent a few months getting it ready to show the variety of items now offered at Whidbey Vintage Collective.
Their business model is built around a simple process of sharing the work: Each of the partners works one day a week; there are no employees. Every item is numbered and identified, and each person keeps track of her own inventory.
They have a never-ending supply of delightful treasures including clothing, art, hard-to-find collectibles, funky furniture, and interesting jewelry. Every week there are new items, so it’s worth a visit weekly just to see what has been added.
Whidbey Vintage Collective, at 18181 Highway 525 in Freeland, is open 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Thursday through Sunday.
Beginning May 18th, Whidbey Vintage Collective will be hosting a 10-vendor flea market. The cost to participate is just $25 for a space. Sellers can bring their items and a table (or a pop-up tent 10 X 10). Signage and advertising will be provided. Flea Market dates will be May 18, June 15, July 20, and August 17.
