About this Event

Learn what the Lower Skagit and Snohomish people of Whidbey Island ate, how they found and prepared their food, and what food sources can still be found on Whidbey today. More forager than farmer, they understood each plant’s role in the ecosystem and practiced mindful caretaking of the plants and animals that formed the basis of their food system.

Dalva Church, Executive Director of the Island County Historical Society, will bring cooking and gathering baskets from the Lower Skagit peoples, as well as examples of other tools they used for pounding, grinding and fishing.
