Imagine the Beyond - watercolor by Frances Wood - 15” x 22"

New paintings by Frances Wood   May 1 - 31

In a new series of watercolor paintings author and artist Frances Wood explores views through the branches of her Whidbey Island garden and environment. Using watercolor and ink, allowing the white of the paper to be part of the image, Frances's work explores the light and movement of plant life around her.

Wood explains: "After initially being overwhelmed by the pandemic I started to relax and to just look out the window. There I noticed branches--some with leaves, some winter naked--doing all sorts of crazy things, crossing, overlapping, networking, bending, swaying and creating windows to the sky or the horizon beyond. Occasionally birds landed, some disappeared into the foliage. A year at home opened my eyes, once again, to the infinite patterns, colors, textures and views just outside my windows or floating around in my memories. All awaiting and available for new interpretations with my watercolors, brush and paper."

The gallery will also being exhibiting bronze sculptures by Georgia Gerber and Sharon Spencer, layered glass landscapes by Steph Mader, raku fired ceramic vessels by Joan Govedare, witty assemblages by Pam Kueny Taylor and Sara Saltee, woodwork by Bruce Launer, Dan Wodjenski, and Gary Leake, as well as paintings by several other NW artists.

Rob Schouten Gallery , a premier showcase for Whidbey Island and Northwest artists, is located at 101 Anthes Avenue, Langley WA at the corner of First and Anthes. Spring gallery hours: Weekends 10 - 5; Tuesdays by Appointment, and other Weekdays 11 - 5.
