If you have ever wanted to explore the possibilities for indoor plants, Whidbey Leaf & Vine in Oak Harbor is a special place you will want to visit. And it is the only shop on Whidbey Island specializing in indoor plants.
Geneva and Tanzi Blackmer, mother and daughter, had a grand opening and ribbon cutting of their indoor plant shop on December 2nd. They both enjoy working with visitors to help them find the right plants for their homes and for their personal tastes. They have been long time Whidbey residents and are happy to have a business they enjoy on Whidbey Island.
Geneva and Tanzi have lived in Oak Harbor for over 25 years. They have a strong commitment to give back to the Whidbey community and to help make the island a better place to live. They enjoy volunteering in their spare time with Kiwanis of Oak Harbor, Holiday House, and other organizations.
Geneva says, “I had always wanted to open a small business in downtown Oak Harbor. Tanzi and I have a love for plants, so we started planning to open a business. When the opportunity arose to move into the old Masten Variety building, we knew it was perfect.” She notes that taking care of plants often requires some trial and error, and she feels they can direct people to the plants that will bring them joy. It gives her great pleasure to help find the right plants for their tastes and to help them understand what they need to do to keep their plants healthy. Geneva adds, “I’m still learning which plants work best in this environment.”
In addition to plants, Whidbey Leaf & Vine also offers planters, plant accessories, and plant-themed gifts. New plants and accessories come in often so there is always something new to see.
Future plans at Whidbey Leaf & Vine include potting classes, ‘plant and sip’ evenings, a plant clipping trade area, and more.
