Aniela Perry, a cello virtuoso, offers a range of stringed instrument sales, repair, rental, and education from her “Tiny House of Strings” in Freeland

by Carolyn Tamler 20th May 2024

Aniela Perry started learning to play the cello in high school at age 17, and soon was performing.  She says, “I wanted to play music since I was a kid.” She is recognized now as a performer, composer, and arranger.

She not only fulfilled her goal to play music, but is continuing to expand her skills and services with her business, “Tiny House of Strings.” At her retail store in Freeland she has a large selection of stringed instruments.  She offers lessons and instrument repair, and also has instruments available for rent.

Ariela was born and raised in Eugene, Oregon, lived in Los Angeles for 21 years, then moved back to Oregon, She discovered Whidbey Island on a trip in 2022 and decided she wanted to live here.

In the small Whidbey community, word spread about her talents. She formed a chamber ensemble, Trio Rosa, with pianist Sheila Weidendorf and violinist Linda Vogt. She was invited to join the Saratoga Orchestra; became the bass player for the local band, Buried Blond; and accepted the newly vacant position of String Teacher at the Whidbey Island Waldorf School.

Other local musicians she has worked with include Gloria Ferry Brennan, Roxanna Patterson, and Gideon Freudman. Aniela offers private lessons for violin, cello and other stringed instruments, and piano.101240

Through “Tiny House of Strings” she is also expanding her passion for musical instruments and through her apprenticeship to a luthier in Seattle, has become knowledgeable about bow and instrument repair and maintenance.

In her design and restoration of the building that houses Tiny House of Strings, Aniela adhered to a style that embraces natural woods, earthtones, handcrafted antiques and heirlooms to create a cozy feeling of home in rural Pacific Northwest.
