Danielle and Eli Imbery became the owners of Flowers by the Bay, next to the Payless store in Freeland, on August 1st, 2022. Since that time they have worked to create a successful local business and are continuing to build a strong base of customers.
When Danielle and Eli noticed a For Sale sign at Flowers by the Bay, they talked about whether this might be an appropriate opportunity for them. They also asked, if they didn’t follow up on this, “What would we regret?” They agreed they would regret not making an offer for this business.
Danielle and Eli have a strong commitment to support the local South Whidbey community. Danielle says, “We want to have a more island feeling here; we enjoy showcasing local artists with some of the merchandise we offer, and we want to focus on products that represent the identity of Whidbey.” They are open to meeting with local artists who have some items that will be appropriate for the store. They currently have five employees who share their enthusiasm.
Some of the local products being featured include:
- Stitched by Jennifer – Tea towels and embroidery
- Rippling Wild Flowers – Dried flowers in resin
- Sally Jensen – Pottery
- Whidbey Wood Girl – wood items by Amber Hawkins
- Dragon Fly Diva – items by Wendy Beadle
- Items from Artists of South Whidbey
Flowers by the Bay was a People’s Choice winner at this year’s Whidbey Island Fair. They get their flowers from two local growers: Susan Cary of Home Place Farm and Jeff DuLong from Whidbey Island Dahlias.
They are now offering flower arranging classes. They encourage people to make their own arrangements and bouquets. They also partner with Ballydidean Farm to do events and fundraising.
Flowers by the Bay, at 1609 Main Street in the Freeland Plaza Shopping Center, is open 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday through Saturday. They have a contract with Teleflora so people can order on their website. They offer local delivery of their flowers from Clinton to Coupeville.
